About

In 1998, after spending over 10 years working in forestry and several more years as a carpenter and woodworker, I opened my own shop in Pennsylvania’s beautiful Pocono Mountains. Intending to specialize in chair building, I was inspired by a chapter in the old Foxfire book. Over the years I’ve built a wide variety of chairs, from one off, Danish modern inspired designer prototypes to all types of Windsors, from Chippendales to Federal style, and things folks dreamed up. After all these years and all the chairs, I still most enjoy building the traditional Appalachian Mountain style ladderback chairs that I first built from that old Foxfire book. While over the years I’ve adopted the use of machinery to do some of the heavier work, I still do most of the work using traditional tools and techniques. The chairs that I build today are essentially no different than those that were built for many years by rural artisans like myself.
